Crowns & Bridges

CROWNS

Dental crowns and bridges are custom-fitted tooth prosthetics that are used to replace or restore damaged or missing teeth. Crowns are fixed over the surfaces of natural tooth structures or dental implants. Bridges are used to fill in the gaps left by missing teeth and are anchored in place by the natural teeth or crowns nearest the empty space. Both crowns and bridges are non-removable and must be cemented in place by a licensed dentist. Patients who get crown or bridges to restore their smiles achieve both the function and appearance of natural, healthy teeth.

BRIDGES

If you have one or more missing teeth, our durable dental bridges are a great choice to fill the gap in your bite. A bridge consists of a series of crowns placed over natural teeth, connected by a replacement tooth placed over the space left by a lost tooth. Beyond simply placing the bridge, we will show you the proper method for cleaning and maintaining your new teeth, so they will last for many years to come.

  • What is the difference between a dental crown and a bridge?

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped "cap" that is placed over a damaged or decayed tooth to restore its shape, size, and strength, as well as improve its appearance. A dental bridge, on the other hand, is a solution for a missing tooth or teeth. It uses the teeth on either side of the gap (which may be crowned) as anchors to hold a false tooth in place.

  • When would I need a crown instead of a bridge?

You would need a crown if you have a weak, decayed, or cracked tooth that needs protection or if you need to cover a dental implant or a tooth that has had a root canal treatment. A bridge, however, is needed when you have one or more missing teeth and have strong teeth on either side of the gap to serve as supports for the bridge.

  • How long do crowns and bridges last?

With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, both dental crowns and bridges can last many years. On average, they may need replacement after about 10-15 years, though they can last much longer with proper care.

  • Are crowns and bridges noticeable?

Today's dentistry aims to make crowns and bridges look as natural as possible. They are typically made from porcelain or ceramic that can be matched to the color of your natural teeth. The shape, color, and size are all designed to blend seamlessly with your remaining teeth.
